The Education Scholarship Program
Twenty young women continue with high school scholarships funded by ISC. ($170 per girl covers all costs of high school education for one year). To date, every girl that ISC has sponsored has graduated, many with high honors. Yadira Mena graduated 1st in a class of 300 students in June and Rosa Laguay graduated with high honors.
Eight young women continue with university scholarships (depending on need,
scholarships range from $200 to $500 and covers books, supplies, transportation
and matriculation fee for the year).
- Monica Bohorquez and Karina Jacome continue successfully with their studies.
- Johanna Blacio continues with mechanical engineering studies and expects to complete them within a year.
- Sandra Remache continues her studies and has done very well, but her home situation is very precarious. She has been very depressed thinking that perhaps she should work instead of study. At the Chuquis request, we have given her an additional $200 to help with the family crisis. Sandra has only one more year to graduate.
- Maria Fernanda Rosero pursues Accounting/Auditing at a private university. Due to huge admission demands at the state university, she was not able to get a slot even though she waited in line for two nights. She has asked us to cover registration fees for the first semester ($400) at this private school. She plans to get a loan from her employer to cover the second semester.
Martha Alban from the Chuquiragua Club in Quito that sponsors the scholarship program will be with us at the ISC annual meeting. If you are attending, she will present a workshop on this program on Friday afternoon.
All ISC scholarships are funded in July. If you are planning to support this educational program, the Ecuador Partnership Committee would greatly appreciate receiving your contribution by Aug. 30.
To support this project write a check to Ecuador - Education and place it in the offering plate at your church.
